My Desktop compaq USB WIRE MOUSE wont work but the light is on?

this is extremely frustrating. I have already tried to switched to different USB ports, Restored the computer to factory settings, Unplugged replugged in every port RESTARTED... still wont move the cursor... I've even went into control Panel and Hardware and the computer doesn't even recognize that the mouse is plugged in. I know it's working because the lasor light is working on the mouse itself. So why wont my computer recognize it? Ive litterally tried everything possible. GRRRR Im so mad at this thing... I have a crappy wireless mouse that skips everytime i try to move it so it really sucks to use... i want my other mouse back someone HELP!! lol
